CONSIDERATIONS:
The Laurel Heights residence is a very lovely 100-year-old San Francisco condo, full of elaborate period mouldings, wainscoting and trim. The major consideration for the bathroom design and remodel was to match the style of the condo and to leave the impression that the bathroom is a beautifully restored original.
You will see hexagonal ceramic tile on the floor, wainscoting with custom linear detailing and an actual restoration of the original built-in cabinet.

The condo's hallway, with no natural light of its own, needed colour work and lighting design to make the space more dynamic and a better environment for the wall art.

Tub surround cornice detail: Bossy Gray ceramic 2" x 2", liner + molding
White painted wainscoting

Here is a selection from my CAD drawings for this project. They were used to convey details from me as the designer to my client, but also to the contractor, the electrician, the plumber and the tile-setter. They show the important technical side of the remodel and are a vital step in any remodel project.

Choosing the right tile

Picking just the right off-white tile for this job was very important. Each white tends towards one of the primary or secondary colours and in order to match it with paint and floor tile, the hue had to be exactly right.

To the left you can see a selection of some of the off-white ceramic tile that fell within our budget for this project and from which we picked.
