The Brief

Bedroom make-overs: convert 4 childhood bedrooms into rooms for now college-age young adults:

Furnishings

Window treatments for the 4 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms + family room
Colour consultation for the 4 bedrooms + 5 other rooms throughout residence
Carpet
Accessories

CONSIDERATIONS:
This was an interesting and fun project. The family's children had grown up in their childhood bedrooms. Other than collecting increasing quantities of possessions, the rooms had not changed since they were little. The children are now young adults and they were ready for more grown-up rooms.

Each young adult had a very distinct sense of personal style which needed to be represented - and the Mom had to like and approve everything too! You will get a strong sense of the different personalities of each child as you view the pictures

The process went beautifully. It was a lot of fun and everyone ended up happy (yes, the Mom too).

THE SPECS

BEDROOM 1

Bedroom 1 belongs to the eldest daughter who was away at college during college semesters
Bedding: quirky, mix and match, gypsy style. Dark browns with blues and teals
Drapery: also quirky and textural to match the bedding
Wall colour: vivid blue
Furnishings: contemporary, upholstered. Neutral tones
Display: dark wood floating shelves to display frames and art
Carpet: mid-toned brown

BEDROOM 2

Bedroom 2 belongs to the youngest of the 3 girls
Bedding: dark blue and white
Blinds: contemporary, linear patterned fabric in blue-green and light fawn
Wall colours: playful combination of bright blue and blue-green
Furnishings: contemporary, wenge furnishings. Plenty of dressers for storage and a platform bed
Display: custom pin-board in fabric to match blinds. Also, floating shelves for frames and trophies
Carpet: very dark blue

BEDROOM 3

Bedroom 3 belongs to the middle daughter
Bedding: mauve floral print
Drapery + blinds: very fine pin-stripe in pale gold and gray
Wall colour: putty neutral
Furnishings: contemporary. Welded steel headboard, walnut storage cabinet, cozy swivel armchair
Display: large multi-niche unit to display photos, trophies etc.
Carpet: light beige

BEDROOM 4

Bedroom 4 belongs to my clients' son
Bedding: Hawaiian style
Blinds: heavy, textural neutrals
Wall colour: warm gray
Furnishings: a nod to island style
Carpet: light neutral

THE STORY BOARDS (please click to enlarge)

These boards tell the story of the decorations for each of the 4 Kentfield bedrooms. They include all details from bedding, furnishings, with their wood and fabric samples, to wall colour, carpet and drapery fabric samples. Story boards are used to convey the general look and feel and the proposed ambiance, as well as the relationships between individual elements, to a client in order to help him or her envisage my vision for the space. They are a very effective tool.

They were used to convey details from me as the designer to my client and her children, but also to the electrician, the painter, the carpet installer, the furniture delivery crew and the drapery and blind installers. They show the practical side of the makeovers.
